Online taxi service Yandex.Taxi buys food delivery service Foodfox

MOSCOW, Dec 25 (PRIME) -- Russian online taxi hailing service Yandex.Taxi, a unit of Internet giant Yandex, has purchased food delivery service Foodfox, a Yandex.Taxi spokesperson said on Monday without disclosing the value of the deal.

“Speed is the most important thing in food delivery. From the very beginning, Foodfox has paid attention to effective logistics and the quality of restaurants, which join the service. Thanks to the above the team has achieved impressive results over a year and a half, and the service became a noticeable player in this sphere,” Yandex.Taxi’s General Director Tigran Khudaverdyan said.

“The logistical platform and technologies of Yandex.Taxi, as well as our experience in marketing and attracting of clients will help develop Foodfox.”

Yandex.Taxi expects to close a merger deal with its U.S.-headquartered fellow Uber in January 2018. Foodfox and Uber’s UberEATS will enter a food delivery division of the new holding company.
